About Emmanuel Alliance Church
Emmanuel Alliance Church is a member congregation of The Christian and
Missionary Alliance, a missions-oriented, Protestant, evangelical denomination
with ministries in 56 countries and territories around the world and a
constituency of over 2.5 million people.
In 1984 a group of individuals approached the Mid-Atlantic District of The
Christian and Missionary Alliance and expressed their desire to join together
in birthing a new Alliance church in Frederick. Their request was granted and
on September 9, 1984 the fledgling congregation held its first public service.
Shortly thereafter the Rev. David Arnold was called to serve as pastor.
Meeting initially at Rock Creek Center on Waverly Drive, Emmanuel enjoyed
steady growth. In 1988 public services were moved to South Frederick
Elementary School. October 23, 1988 was an historic day for the congregation
as ground was broken for the erection of a permanent worship and education
facility. Much of the construction work was contracted, but various
individuals in the church family gave sacrificially of their time and talent
to complete specific details of the new building. Dedication Day was September
10, 1989.
With the building complete, Pastor Arnold resigned to become the founding
pastor of Hope Alliance Church in Germantown. Almost a year later the Rev.
Stephen Kroh was called to the Emmanuel pastorate, beginning his ministry here
on September 1, 1990.
Statistics are an important part of a church's story. We praise God for the
over $100,000 He has enabled this congregation to give to overseas missionary
work. Many thousands of dollars have additionally been donated to Home
Missions endeavors to plant new churches in the Mid-Atlantic District.
Contributions of well over $1,500,000 have met the operating needs of the
congregation.
More significant are the 200 people introduced to a personal, saving
relationship with the Lord Jesus through the ministry of this church since
1984.
27 charter members founded Emmanuel Alliance Church. Today our active
membership numbers 70 with an average attendance of around 120 since many others count Emmanuel as their church home.
Our worship style would be best described as "blended" since we enjoy singing worship choruses, but also value the great hymns of the faith. We consider our congregation to be family and frequently share prayer concerns as well as celebrating the praise events of our lives. We offer Communion regularly on the first Sunday of the month and at that time invite those with physical needs to come before the congregation to be anointed and prayed for by the elders as well as the body.
The mission of Emmanuel Alliance Church is to make disciples for the Lord
Jesus Christ. We have purposed to do this through celebrating Christ in
worship, through cultivating personal faith in Christ, through caring for one
another in Christ’s name, and through communicating the Good News about Christ
to our world. We sincerely invite you to join us in fulfilling this exciting
mission as we love and serve the Lord Jesus in this community of faith.
